Slings

£0.00

Sling use has been shown to help build secure attachment between a child and caregiver, can reduce social isolation, make it easier for families to use public transport. There is a lower incidence of postnatal depression with parents who regularly carry their babies, and using a sling can help a parent to cope when they are suffering poor mental health. Babies that are regularly carried tend to be calmer, less fussy and cry less.

Please see below for more information on the benefits of using a sling, and how families can attend a sling library session for help and advice.

Please choose the type of sling from the drop down menu. You can choose from:

– standard carrier (suitable from newborn), for example a Baby Bjorn or a buckle carrier

– hip carrier (suitable from 3m+), for example a Baba Sling

– wraps (suitable from newborn), for example a Moby or a Close Caboo.

Families are very welcome to attend a Bristol Sling Ladies sling library session for help and advice.  The meets are advertised on facebook at www.facebook.com/bristolslingladies – if they mention Baby Bank Network referral the usual advice/ fitting fee of £5 will be waived.

If the family would like to try a different style of sling or carrier, they can try different types at a sling library session. Once they know which sling type they prefer, please get in touch with us and we can make an exchange.

All slings donated to Baby Bank Network are safety checked before we pass them on to families. We provide instructions and a copy of the T.I.C.K.S Rule for Safe Babywearing

Types of sling:

Stretchy Wrap: A long piece of stretchy material that is tied around your body. Ideal for newborns up to 4-6months, front carries only. Easy to share between caregivers, take a little practice to master

Structured Stretchy: Do not require tying, same benefits as a stretchy wrap. Ideal for newborns up to 4-6months, front carries only

Woven Wrap: A long piece of woven fabric that is tied around your body. Very versatile, can be used from newborn to preschool age. Front, hip and back carries; takes some practise to master

Soft Structured Carrier: often known as “buckles” or SSC. A structured panel fastened using buckles on straps not always suitable for newborns. Usually can do front, hip and back carries; some do forward facing too

Tie on sling: A panel with four straps that tie around your body. A good all-rounder, versatile and adaptable. Front, hip and back carries

Ring Sling: Great for newborns and for quick carries with toddler or preschooler. Take some practise to master. Adjustable and can be shared by carers

Pouches: A very simple sling, a loop of fabric that forms a pocket for baby’s bottom. Quick to use but may be difficult to get a good position with newborn
